Week #5:

#5:

This week, Brooks and I continued going around and talking to homerooms, and we checked the boxes in the office, the square gym, and the circle gym. The box that was in the circle gym is no longer there, so I am assuming that one of the gym teachers disposed of it. The box in the office had a good amount of balls in it, and so did the box in the square gym. No homerooms, besides I10, has had any balls in it. I think that we need to work on advertising our cause, and I think that we need to bring in balls of our own. I know I've donated a few and so has Brooks, so I think that as a class we should each try to bring in at least one ball each. Brooks, David, Megan and I also talked to some of the gym teachers about spreading awareness in their classes. I believe Megan wrote an email to the entire Physical Education department asking for their support. Besides that, the past two weeks have been really slow, and we have not really made any significant progress with our project. The first few weeks of the project we all did extremely well, and we were all on-top of things, but I think that this week we all just don't know what else to do, so during our discussion we should figure out what else we are doing.
I also don't know what we're doing in the community. I think that we should figure out how we're going to raise awareness outside of the school, and I think that we should figure out how we're going to continue to raise awareness inside of the school. I know Ms. Johnston's other classes are selling bracelets and shirts and raffle tickets, and I know that we aren't offering any type of reward and we're not selling any product, so we should probably think about how we're going to appeal to the student body without doing those things. Although it has been slow, in my opinion, we are still doing a good job. I think we just need to assign new roles and make new goals in order to be successful with the project.
After our discussion today, we should all have new assignments and priorities that we will be able to pursue for the next three weeks.

Week #4:

#4

This week Brooks and I continued going around and speaking to homerooms. I think that the Collection group has spoken to a majority, if not the entire school. Brooks, David, Megan and I have also checked the boxes in the Circle Gym and in the Main Office to see if there are too many balls. We did not really accomplish a lot this week, we have basically been doing the same thing for the past 4 weeks. I think that for the next 3 weeks we should work on actually getting donations, instead of just speaking about the importance of donating. I think we should go around to homerooms and see if their bins are full, and if they are then we should encourage people to keep donating, and if they are not full we should encourage them to donate. I think that our commercial, if it is still able to be edited, should stress the cause and what we are asking for. I watched it this morning on the announcements and I noticed that no one in my homeroom payed attention to it, since it is just like every other charitable commercial. I also noticed that you cannot even see what the commercial is asking for. So I definitely think that the Commercial Group should be aware of that. On Wednesday we should talk about what we are doing for the community, and how we are going to raise awareness in that regard. I know we have not really talked about the community, so tomorrow that should be our main focus. Overall, I think we are continuing to do a good job even though we have slowed down a bit. As long as everyone is doing their personal job, and as long as everyone is equally participating I think our Outreach Project will be successful.

Week #3:

3.

This week, Brooks and I finished going around to homerooms to make announcements. We also decorated three boxes, and placed them around the school. We put one in the main office, one in the square gym, and one in the circle gym. All of the teachers were willing to help us with our project. Most of them suggested that we print out flyers to put around the gym so that they can advertise it to their gym classes. We got in trouble for our flyers this week, so hopefully the group that is responsible for those will come up with new "school appropriate" ideas. The sooner we get those printed and hung up around the school, the sooner the teachers will help us promote our cause.
This week we also got many donations! A number of students gave balls to Brooks and I as we went around to homerooms, and some of the basketball players brought in balls as well. As long as people keep donating, I would say that our project has been very successful so far. The only thing that we need to work on is communicating as a class. I think that we should figure out the commercial situation, and also figure out when the flyers will be printed. As soon as that gets done, more people will know about our fundraiser, and more people will donate. I also think that we should discuss which organization we are donating the balls to, and how we are going to get them there. If we decide on Face to Face, I can obviously bring them there, but if we decide on another organization then we should discuss how we are going to get the balls there. We also need to talk about how we're going to raise awareness in the community, since I have not heard of anything so far. I don't know if we have a Community Group or not. If we do, then we should figure out their plans. If we don't, then we should make one or work on this together as a class. Overall, it was a successful week. Hopefully people keep donating!

Week #2

#2.

This week the Collection group started going around to homerooms and making announcements about donating sports equipment for underprivileged children. We split up into groups of two, and each pair chose a different hall that we were going to do each day. Brooks and I started with K hall, and next we move on to Upper C hall. By Thursday or Friday, we will have gone around to all of the homerooms, and hopefully the commercial will be done by then as well. Megan and I finished speaking to each of the basketball teams, and I think that most of the players seemed like they would be willing to bring in whatever they think will help us. We also got our first two donations! So hopefully more people throughout the school will be willing to make a donation. As far as problems go, I think that we need to communicate more as a class, and I think that we need to talk to each other about when everything is happening. I know that the Collection group has only been focused on collecting, therefore we have no idea what the Posters/Flyers group is doing, or the Advertising/Marketing group. I think that we will be able to solve this problem by the end of the week, since we will have tomorrow to discuss the project as a class. For next week, I think that my group should finish going around to homerooms, and make sure that we have bins placed in both of the gyms and in every homeroom. As a class, I think that we should have a commercial completed and on the announcements, and I think that we should put the posters up around the school. So far, I think our class is doing extremely well considering it is only the second week of the project. Once we have the commercial done, and the posters/flyers up, all we need to worry about is getting people to donate their sports equipment. Other than that, I think everyone is doing a good job and I think everyone is taking it seriously, which is really nice since it's such a good cause to be supporting.
