Week #1

1.

This week Megan Berardelli and I contacted Mr. Meyers, who is the athletic director in Wissahickon. We also spoke to Mr. Cline and his basketball team, Mr. Mogg and Mr. Morris and their basketball team, as well. We did not get the response we were hoping for from Mr. Meyers. We were hoping for him to say that the school would be willing to donate some of their unused/old equipment, but unfortunately he did not say that. After that, we were reassured because the basketball teams seemed pretty enthusiastic about the cause and they seemed like they would be willing to donate. The hardest part about collecting sports equipment is getting people to actually bring in their stuff from home. As much as we advertise and spread awareness about underprivileged children, the difference we make, and the impact we have on the children's lives, comes down to the people who are donating. With all of the obstacles aside, I think Meg and I did a good job speaking to the teams, and I think that our collection will be a success. As long as we stress the importance of spreading awareness, and as long as we explain how one person can make a difference, I think that we will be able to collect a good amount of sports equipment and school supplies. I think that our class chose an easy organization/cause because we can raise/collect supplies instead of ask for money donations.

That being said, at this point, the outreach is going well, but there is a lot of room for improvement. I think that as a class, we need to sit down and discuss who is doing what, and when they are doing it, because everyone seems to be focusing on their individual task, and we aren't communicating as an entire group. If we all sat down and discussed what we were doing, and put it on a calender, it would be a lot easier for us to manage or time.  For next week, Megan and I need to speak to more of the sports teams about donating, and I think the whole Collection group should start going around to homerooms to talk about bringing in sports equipment and school supplies.
